I am an ecologist studying coastal and marine ecosystems

I am currently a post-doctoral researcher at University of Georgia Skidaway Institute of Oceanography, working with Clifton Buck, John Van Stan, and Sybil Gotsch, in coastal oak forests to understand the role of tree epiphytes in precipitation fluxes, water chemistry, and resilience to drought. I am excited to learn new skills in hydrology and chemistry that I can apply to ecological questions.

I earned my PhD at Northeastern University in the Hughes Lab. My dissertation work focused on the ways that biotic and abiotic conditions influence species interactions in salt marsh and mangrove ecosystems. I also have a MS from William & Mary at VIMS where I studied seagrass communities in the Duffy lab.

My research on important and vulnerable coastal ecosystems has led to my interest in the connections between science and policy. As a Post Doctoral Fellow at Emory University in the Department of Environmental Sciences I broadened my research in new directions. I worked with Murray Rudd and Daniel Rochberg to organize a Climate Research Roadmap effort to identify research priorities across sectors and disciplines that will help diverse stakeholders to understand and address climate change in the state of Georgia. I am excited to see how my experience with science policy research will strengthen and complement my future ecological research.
